It Must Be Spring...

Liz bought me these flowers the other day. Today is a typical Spring day: rain, hail, wind, thunder, sun, etc.! But looking at these gives me a glimmer of better weather.

Cake Tasting

Frank and Theresa went cake tasting yesterday - Frank was jazzed because he got to taste cake for breakfast!

So far, they have their wedding really well thought out, and they've picked almost everything, and hopefully, had some fun in the process!

Frank and Theresa still flying around the side yard...

Another Update

The MRI of my left hip shows an old tear of, and some degeneration of the labrum around the socket in the hip.  I remember tearing something there many years ago, in a Junior College Gymnastics class, and I've just lived with the stiffness and pain. It's gotten worse over the years and now I have to have surgery to fix the tear and stop the pain. I told the Dr. I want to put the hip surgery on hold until I get info from the soon-to-be-scheduled MRI of my shoulder.

(MRI now happening this Friday...news next week.)

The shoulder injury is not healing on its own which indicates it also may be a tear requring surgery, the inflammation is constricting a lot of nerves and causing me to have everything from vertigo, to back spasms, slurred speech, shoulder/back pain, fatigue,  etc., so if I can choose to treat one area first - that would be the shoulder area! More news as I get it...

On May 3rd we're having a big barn/yard sale. I'm excited about that! I think that's the date, that Saturday, 8:30 - 3pm. Washer/dryer, clothes - new things, small electronics, books.....good stuff!

Blessed Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter!

Maundy Thursday, Mandatum Thursday, Holy Thursday - all words for today's Feast Day, the first of three days (the Triduum - Holy Thursday, Good  Friday, Holy Saturday) leading to Easter or Pachscal Time. It is traditional for the Pastor of the parish to wash the feet of twelve men from the parish, as Christ did with his twelve Apostles.

This day commemorates Christ's commandment (Mandatum) to institute the Eucharist at the 'Last Meal'. The entire day, the meal, altar, the Passover food, everything, is very symbolic for Catholics and it is part of the entire Paschal-tide mystery.

Christ's sacrifice of Good Friday is acted out at each Mass.

Happy Birthday Lizzie!

Appointments Appointments!

I've had a Murphy's Law experience with the MRI's I'm supposed to have - I had my hip MRI done last Thursday, with my follow up appointment late today, but I'm still waiting to get insurance approval for the shoulder MRI.

I'll keep posting news to this blog.

Now Waiting...

I had my MR Arthogram or whatever it's called - today, everything went well - the injections, MRI machine, etc. It took a little longer than I expected though. I have an appointment Monday and I hope the results are in by then. The same procedure is to be done on my shoulder but I'm waiting for my insurance to approve it. Finally! One down, and hopefully both shoulders to go. I hope after these MRIs to have some definitive answers!

It's been beautiful - sunny, breezy, but tons of pollen, so we are hoping for some rain to "ground" the pollen!

I've been cross stitching on my Mom's block. Here's a picture.

A Poem for Liz

Liz has been promoted to a full time, permanent position at the PD where she works in the Records Department. We are so proud of her, she's had a lot of procedures and codes to learn, and several tests to take. She now has benefits like vacation time and insurance, and other than the one year probation she has, she really loves her job. Congratulations! New car, new job, - wow!

Aside from that happy news, I found a Shel Silverstein poem ( her favorite poet) that perfectly describes one aspect of her childhood. Here it is:

The band-aids on the left are empty wrappers - no band-aids in the boxes either.

Band-Aids

I have a Band-Aid on my finger,
One on my knee, and one on my nose,
One on my heel, and two on my shoulder,
Three on my elbow, and nine on my toes.
Two on my wrist, and one on my ankle,
One on my chin, and one on my thighs
Four on my belly, and five on my bottom,
One on my forehead, and one on my eye.
One on my neck, and in case I might need 'em
I have a box full of thirty-five more.
But oh! I do think it's sort of a pity
I don't have a cut or a sore!

---

For years, we would stock up on band-aids, three and four boxes at one time, only to see them completely gone -way too fast, and wrappers left in their stead,  when we really needed them. The band-aid bandit has has slowed down,  but not really stopped!
